I helped move my girlfriend out of one college apartment and into another one last weekend. It was pretty sentimental. Moving out of a place that provided so many awesome memories. Then, moving into an empty place with so much potential.

A blank canvass to an artist is the same thing as an empty apartment is to a college student. A college student has so many recreational necessities that every inch of floor and wall space will have a purpose.

The walls will be covered in personal photos. Photos of the group during the big party last year. Pictures of the tenants arm in arm with friends from their hometowns. Also on the walls are beer signs, posters of favorite movie characters and musical artists, Christmas Lights. Each item on the wall will make a statement about the personalities of the residents.

The floor blanketed with stereo equipment, video equipment, furniture made for lounging, lighting equipment. The entertainment center is quickly filled with favorite video games, movies and CDs.

All of this is essential to creating an atmosphere of recreation. Where you will earn a good knick name. Tell corny jokes. Fall in love. Get drunk. Make an ass of yourself. Make an ass of some body else. Not to mention all of the pot smoking that will take place. Finally, a nap to some Pink Floyd to finish off the list. That is all college is for. It shows that you can jump from end to end through the big hoop despite all the distractions of those delicious doggy treats being waved around in the back round.

I forgot the sexual distractions. But that is for another entry.
